Dyball Associates Overcome Defending National Champions
Another day of English summer sun shone down on the golf course on Wednesday as golfers assembled at Stonebridge Golf club to take part in the Midlands Qualifier.
The players were treated to a gem of a parkland course with plenty of water, trees, rough, lush greens and fairways to make the round interesting.
There was just 3 places up for grabs at the national final and qualification came down to just 1 shot in it with TBL Fire pipping One Young World with top fundraisers Trakm8 just a further shot behind in fifth position.
Trakm8 playing in support of Brain Tumour Research raised £470 before a ball was even struck which was a brilliant effort from the team.
It was the Dyball Associates team who overcame the defending national champions to claim the overall winners trophy and they will go on to represent the St Richards Hospice at the national final at the end of July.
With 5 prize holes to play for, including a £2,500 charity donation up for grabs for anyone luckyenough to hit an ace on the 6th hole of the Blythe, it was Andrew Dyball, Managing Director of Dyball Associates who’s approach at the par three 8th Hole was good enough to pick up the Nearest the Pin prize.
Liam Weatherall from defending champions TBL Fire & Protection hit it closest on Hole 13. Dyball Associates secured the long drive bragging rights as Pete Powell’s 320 yard drive on the 14th hole on his way to a nice individual score of 42 points.
In the last of the individual awards, One Young World’s Dan Maunder sunk the longest putt on the 18th green to finish off a fine round.
The action continues with further qualifiers across the country as teams bid to secure their place at the national final and secure the charity donation for their respective chosen charities.
Keep up to speed with the action here.
