Business Fours tees off in Glasgow
The Business Fours Glasgow event teed off the qualifiers of the national business golf tournament at the stunning championship course, Mar Hall.
Teams from Glasgow’s professional services sector took part in the event supported by Insider.co.uk and the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, which means the search has now started to find the 2018 national business golf champions.
The stableford format sees the combined scores of colleagues from companies taking part deciding who qualified for the national finals in St Andrew’s at the end of May. Business Fours Glasgow event saw a formula which split players from up their colleagues to maximise networking opportunities on the day.
The heavy overnight rain thankfully stopped as play commenced at the Business Fours Glasgow event under blue skies and the conditions were great on the course especially on the quick USPGA standard greens.
There was various individual prizes up for grabs at the event supported by tournament prizes sponsor, demolition and industrial dismantling specialists, Kinetic Demolition.
The Nearest the Pin prizes were picked up by Gordon MacDonald from Brewin Dolphin and guest of Insider.co.uk for the day, Martin Egan of Dawn homes at holes 6 and 10 respectively. The bragging rights of the longest drive belonged to call Michael Wood from Equator Scotland for his cracking drive at the fifth. The Longest Putt on the 18th green was holed out by John Laird from Begbies Traynor from all of 25 feet.
The eventual Business Fours Glasgow event winners came from Clydesdale Bank under the guidance of team captain Craig Wilson and bolstered by some fine scoring from Graeme Imrie as they capped their maiden Business Fours event with a victory. The winners will have the honour of wearing their new Royal & Awesome Tartan Troos when the tee it up in St Andrews on the 30th May on finals day. The team competition was close with Brewin Dolphin and Begbies Traynor qualifying behind runners up, Insider.co.uk.
The four charities that will be in the running at the final to win the Business Fours donation are Hospice UK chosen by Clydesdale Bank CHAS chosen by Insider, the Glasgow Children’s Charity Hospital chosen by Begbies Traynor and Winning Scotland Foundation chosen by Brewin Dolphin.
The best performing fourball on at the Business Fours Glasgow event was captained by Brent Romany from Equator Scotland playing alongside colleague David Petrie, Scott Allan from Brewin Dolphin and Business Fours ambassador Jim Melrose, the former professional footballer shared stories from his playing career during the prize presentation.
The charity raffle is being supported by the Scottish Open who have a strong CSR focus for the upcoming 2018 event at Gullane where they will be supporting Lukie House and the Doddy Weir Foundation. Participants had the opportunity to get their hands on the trophy the Professionals will be playing for this July.
The Business Fours action continues on Tuesday in Edinburgh on the championship course at Dalmahoy before going down to the borders for the Construction, Housing and Property event then the qualifying action comes to a close at Aboyne Golf Club in Aberdeen for the Energy event.
